"License key is too old for this version of Aligner" message

Postby Brian Campbell » Fri Oct 30, 2009 2:16 pm

When you receive an "Invalid License Key" message that states:
The key received from the server is invalid: the license key is too old for this version of Aligner
you have tried to use a version of CodonCode Aligner that is newer than the last version supported by your License Server (or, more specifically, the license key entered in your Aligner License Server).

For example, you may be using CodonCode Aligner version 4, but your License Server only supports version 3 and older.

Why You Get This Message
Most likely, you get this message because you are trying to use the newest version of CodonCode Aligner, but the licenses you purchased are valid only for older versions of CodonCode Aligner. This happens when a major upgrade of CodonCode Aligner is released after your update and support agreement has expired.

The initial purchase of CodonCode Aligner includes one year of free upgrades and support. After one year, you (or the person who purchased the license) had the option to extend the update and support agreement. If you chose not to extend the upgrade and support agreement, you will not be able to use versions of CodonCode Aligner that were released after the update and support period expired.

What You Can Do
  1. Either upgrade to the newest version of CodonCode Aligner by paying an upgrade fee.
    • If you choose to upgrade, you will be able to use the newest version of Aligner, and also receive a free year of updates and support. Currently (July 2012), the upgrade fee is $360 for each academic license; upgrade fees are subject to change without notice..
To request a quote for an update, please contact us. Please make sure to include information about who placed the original order.
  2. Or continue using an older version of CodonCode Aligner that your License Server supports.
    • If you want to continue using the older version of Aligner, you will first need to know which version you are eligible to use. If you know which version, you will need to uninstall the CodonCode Aligner version you currently have installed; then, download and install the older version.
    • Installers for old versions of CodonCode Aligner can be downloaded from http://www.codoncode.com/aligner/archive.htm
    • Please note that we cannot guarantee that old versions of CodonCode Aligner will work on operating system versions that were released after a specific version of CodonCode Aligner was released. If you cannot use an older version on your operating system, you will either need to use a different computer with an older operating system, or upgrade to the newest version (and pay any applicable upgrade fees) as described above.
    • If you do not know which version you are able to use please contact us; please make sure to include the name and email address of the person who originally purchased the license.
