Aligner License Server 1.2.3 released

Postby Peter Richterich » Tue Jun 23, 2009 12:55 pm

Aligner License Server 1.2.3 was released on June 23, 2009. Downloads are available at http://www.codoncode.com/aligner/licenseserverhelp.htm.

This update addresses a problem that some Windows users experienced where license returns partially failed, so that licenses were still marked as "in use" on the License Server. With version 1.2.3 of the License Server, such "stuck" licenses can be released by starting and then quitting CodonCode Aligner again (from the same computer and user account where the license return failed).
All users of older License Server versions should upgrade to this version. This is a free upgrade.
Please follow the instructions below closely to avoid license problems.

Users who are upgrading from "CodonCode Keyserver" version 1.0.1 should contact CodonCode Corporation before upgrading.

Windows update instructions:
  1. Quit "Aligner License Server" (but do not uninstall). If you are running the License Server as a service, stop the service.
  2. Open an Explorer window for the folder where the License Server is installed (usually in C:\Program Files\).
  3. Double-click the "Check for updates" icon (you may need to allow internet access when prompted by your firewall).
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the update. Make sure to install is at the same location as the older version.
  5. Start Aligner License Server. If you encounter any problems, please contact CodonCode Corporation.
Some anti-virus software can cause system crashes, hangs, or very slow startups, so turning off anti-virus software before installing and running the License Server may be needed (you can always scan after downloading the updater, and when the update is complete).

Mac OS X update instructions:
  1. Quit "Aligner License Server" (but do not uninstall).
  2. Download the License Server installer for OS X.
  3. Make sure that the older version is installed at the default location - a folder called "Aligner License Server" in "Applications". If installed at a different location, or moved or renamed the folder where the License Server was installed, please move it back or rename the folder before installing the new version.
  4. Install Aligner License Server 1.2.3 on the same hard disk or partition. It is very important that you have only one version of the License Server installed!
  5. Start Aligner License Server. If you encounter any problems, please contact CodonCode Corporation.

The Aligner License Server enables users of CodonCode Aligner, our software for sequence assembly and multiple sequence alignment, to use licenses on multiple computers on an alternating basis.
